Multicultural Liaison Workers
Who Are Multicultural Liaison Workers (MCLWs)?
Multicultural Liaison Workers (MCLWs) are cultural and language support staff with the Vancouver School Board (VSB). They are part of the ELL Support Services team at the Newcomer Welcome Centre (NWC).
MCLWs work with schools and families to build strong connections between cultural communities and the school system. They help create welcoming, inclusive school environments where students and families feel supported, informed, and engaged.
How MCLWs Can Support Families
MCLWs are a resource for students, families, and school staff. They provide cultural and language support and can assist in many ways, including:
- Sharing information about schools, programs, and educational opportunities
- Supporting communication between families and school staff
- Providing language and cultural interpretation
- Helping families understand school processes, expectations, and available services
- Connecting families with community resources and supports
- Encouraging family engagement and participation in school life
- Supporting student well-being and a sense of belonging
Every family's experience is unique, and MCLWs are here to help families access information, make connections, and feel confident engaging with their school community.
