Special Events

We are very proud to have a strong parent community that helps organize several special events throughout the year. Some are fundraisers for our Grade 7 Quebec Exchange while others are just to have fun and build school community. Some take place during school time while others in the late afternoon and evening are for whole families to attend. Our regular events are listed below. Listen for announcements via the school email system and this website to find out when and how you can sign up.

Welcome Back BBQ

The Welcome Back BBQ takes place in late September or early October and is an opportunity for new and returning L'École Bilingue families to catch up and kick off another school year. It is organized by Grade 7 parents and students and is a fundraiser for the Grade 7 Quebec Exchange. Offerings and activities at the BBQ vary a bit each year but generally include: a bbq meal of burgers or hot dogs (both meat and veggie options available), a cake walk, a bake sale, a 50/50 draw and of course the chance to catch up with new and old friends.

Hallowe’en Haunt

Children and parents alike come dressed up for this very special annual event that takes place the week before Hallowe’en. Our gym becomes a haunted playground with carnival games for all ages and a Haunted House not for the feint of heart. The event is organized by parents, with Grade 7 students organizing and hosting the Haunted House and supervising the activities. The night also includes pizza, a concession stand, a bake sale and a cake walk.

Scholastic Book Fair / Les Festivals du Livre

Scholastic Book Fairs / Les Festivals du Livre take place twice a year at the same time as parent-teacher conferences (October and March). These fairs are always a highlight for the children. Hundreds of critically acclaimed Scholastic books for all ages and in both French and English are displayed and available for purchase in the school gym. In addition to supporting literacy and making reading exciting for children, the book fairs provide 60% back to the school for every $1 spent. Students and parents also have an opportunity to purchase and donate books to their teachers and classrooms which further builds our school community.

Spellathon

Our biggest fundraiser for the Grade 7 Quebec Exchange, the Spellathon is a major school-wide event. During May and June, students busily gather pledges and practice their words in hopes of winning one of several amazing prizes such as iPads, lego, itunes cards, books, keds, cool USB sticks, t-shirts, hats and art supplies. In addition to supporting literacy in our school, the Spellathon provides a portion of the funds raised to the teachers to help buy new books for each classroom. It is a great way for family and friends to our children to learn to spell successfully.
