Welcome to the new seismically safe Weir Elementary

On November 15, students excitedly lined up outside to see their much-anticipated new school which began construction in the Spring of 2020. At 9 a.m., students streamed into the school and were greeted with warm welcomes from teachers and staff. Their first stop? Their bright and airy classrooms—designed with flexible learning spaces in mind. Primary students were excited to be a part of a classroom pod that that overlooked common learning areas.

Riley McMitchell, Principal of Weir Elementary, met the students in the atrium and asked them about their first impressions. Students gleefully answered, “The gym! The classrooms! The colours! The washrooms!” Noah, a grade 4 student, yelled out, “The school is so big and beautiful.  I just want to hug it!”
