Advances in Science over the last century have had a significant impact on our lives and on the world around us. The number of discoveries in the last 50 years alone is certainly impressive. Whether they benefit or harm us, however, is the subject of much debate. Science is about discovering how biological, chemical and physical processes occur. We seek to understand our world by searching for explanations of the natural phenomena around us.

Students will investigate a rich myriad of topics and will, we hope, find answers to questions such as:

  • Are we alone in the universe?
  • Why do chemists use moles?
  • What are moles?
  • What's the difference between mass and weight? Is there a difference?
  • Is it okay to clone humans or any other creature?
  • Do we need Math to learn Science?
  • Are males and females really that different?
  • What would the world be like without friction?

The Science Department at Britannia Secondary offers a variety of courses to suit the needs of diverse learners. These courses include Science 8 to 10, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science and Transitional Science.  In addition to the courses listed above, students looking for a challenge could enroll in the Venture program and in I.B. senior Science courses.
