International Baccalaureate Program Overview

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies, leading the examinations, that meets the needs of highly motivated secondary school students between the ages of 16 and 19 years.

Diploma candidates are required to select one subject from each of the six subject groups. At least three and not more than four are taken at higher level (HL), the others at standard level (SL). By arranging work in this fashion, students are able to explore some subjects in-depth and some more broadly over the two-year period. Students may elect to do another subject from groups 2, 3, or 4 instead of a subject from the arts.

The International Baccalaureate Mission Statement

"The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end, the organization works with school, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right."

The IB Learner Profile

In addition to the Mission Statement, the IB Organization has established ten Learner Profiles that as IB learners, IB students should strive to be:
