School-wide research study by Dr. Jennifer Shapka, of the University of British Columbia

Your child has been invited to participate in the third year of a school-wide research study conducted by Dr. Jennifer Shapka, of the University of British Columbia: https://ecps.educ.ubc.ca/person/jennifer-shapka/. For new students, this will be their first year of participation. It is a four-year longitudinal study, and the goal of the research is to understand how youth engage with technology. It will also look at the impact of technology-use on their day-to-day lives and how it may be impacted by the ongoing context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participation involves having your child complete a questionnaire on November 22nd during school time, and the questionnaire will take between 30 and 40 minutes to complete.

Below , you will find an introduction letter and consent form.

CyberTeens Parent Consent Form

If you do not wish for your child to participate in this study, you must fill out and return the consent form before the date of data collection.  You can email it directly to  cyber.kids@ubc.ca or print it and return it with your child to school.  You can also watch this short video, which was made at the beginning of the study and describes the goals and procedures for the study: https://youtu.be/_hV-OatuUFM

The school supports this ongoing partnership with Dr. Shapka, and similar to last year, Dr. Shapka will be reporting back to the UHill community (teachers, parents, and students) about the results of this research.
