2023 Graduation Information

March 6 (Monday)

  • Grad Ceremony Confirmation & Grad Gown order form (paper) given to students.

  • Grad tickets (3 complimentary and additional tickets) distributed to students immediately following the Grad Assembly/Rehearsal

June 7 (Wednesday)

  • Grad Rehearsal at Chan Centre at 8:45 am 
  • Graduates must arrive at Chan Centre at 3:00 pm
  • Graduation Ceremony at Chan Centre at 4:00 pm - (Doors open at 3:30)

June 16 (Friday)

  • Graduation Dinner and Dance at the Pan Pacific at 6:00 pm  


GRADUATION CEREMONY and TICKETS

 

Graduation Ceremony will be held at the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts at UBC at 4:00 pm on June 7, 2023 (Graduates must arrive by 3:00 pm).  Each Graduate will receive three tickets to the Graduation Ceremony (1 for the Graduate and 2 for their guests). These 3 tickets are included in the Graduation Fee which is $100 and is due is soon as possible.  Additional tickets (no limits) are $10 each and available for purchase on School Cash-online May 1 to 26, 2023.  Ticket orders will be compiled and then distributed to students on June 2 immediately following the Grad Assembly.    Reminder that graduates must arrive at the Chan Centre by 3:00 pm and will require a ticket to enter the Chan Centre. The doors will open for guests (to be seated) at 3:30 pm and the Ceremony will start promptly at 4:00 pm. Pay parking is available. 


GRADUATION DINNER / DANCE

 

The Dinner/Dance will be held at the Pan Pacific Hotel on Friday, June 16, 2023, and will be starting at 6:00 pm.  More event details to follow.  The Dinner / Dance fee is $15O and is payable on School Cash on-line. 


GRADUATION CEREMONY MESSAGE (Citation)


Each Graduate is responsible for drafting a SHORT message that will be read as they cross the stage. Some examples of what you may want to include are: 


* What you will fondly remember

* your future plans

* regards to people you may wish to thank

* a reflective statement of some kind 

                                                                                                                                         

Remember that this will be read by a teacher/administrator so it must be written in the third person (e.g. “Emily is excited to be taking a year in the fall and traveling around the world. She will miss her friends and family in Vancouver”) Your message must be appropriate for a formal occasion, and it must be 30-50 words long maximum and be submitted electronically. Please watch for the Survey/Form link on the Grade 12 Teams on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, to enter your Graduation Citation Message.  The Citations are due on Friday May 5, 2023.


GRADUATION GOWN ORDER AND DISTRIBUTION


All students participating in the UHill Graduation Ceremony must wear a gown, grad cap/tassel and a sash. Gowns are ordered by height measurement and the purchase of these grad items are included in the Graduation Fees. Each student's Grad Gown Order Form was distributed to them on March 6 and the completed form is due back to the office on Monday, April 3, 2023.   The graduation packages will be distributed after the Grade 12 Assembly and students will be keeping their gown, sash and caps as keepsakes of their graduation ceremony. 

 

GRADUATION ASSEMBLY and SECOND REHEARSALS


 The Grade 12 Assembly will be on Friday, June 2 at 1:45 pm.   Students MUST attend this very important assembly as we will be confirming names and other details to ensure our rehearsal on Wednesday, June 7 runs smoothly.  

 Graduation Rehearsal will be on Wednesday, June 7th, 2023 at 8:45 am at the Chan Centre - Students MUST attend the rehearsal and arrive on time at 8:30 am if they wish to cross the stage and will be excused from their first period as attendance is mandatory!  


VALEDICTORIAN


The valedictorian for the University Hill Secondary class of 2023 should be the student who best represents the graduating class.  The valedictorian writes and gives a speech at the end of the Graduation Ceremony that captures the spirit of the class, acknowledges the achievements and contributions of the students, staff and parents. The speech should be serious, inspirational, entertaining and look ahead to life beyond high school. Nomination forms are due to the Office on Friday, April 21, 2023.   

Video Speeches are due at 10:00 am on Friday, April 28, 2023 and the on-line voting will be on Teams May 3 to 5, 2023


OTHER REMINDERS


Graduation Photo Session dates were in JanuaryReminder that Grade 12 students should have booked their 30 minute appointment at Artona Studios (353 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver).  If they were missed, there is still time to book an appointment at https://artona.com  - Select the "Chat" feature and make an appointment during or before the Spring Break (March 11 to 26).  If you have any questions in regard to the graduation photos, please contact Artona directly - click on "contact us" on their website https://artona.com or call 604-872-7272.


Graduation Capstone Projects and interviews are to be completed as this course is a graduation requirement.  Capstone interviews will be presented on Thursday, May 25, 2023.  The schedule is still to be determined.


Summer Mailout:  The Ministry of Education Dogwood Diploma will be mailed home at the end of August, if the graduation requirements are met.  If you have recently moved or will be moving at the end of the school year, please remember to inform the office.  This will ensure that you receive this document from University Hill School.
