October 3, 2025 Graham Bruce e-News
We continue to uphold our commitment to truth and reconciliation in our community.
Dear Graham Bruce Families,
October has arrived, bringing with it all the beauty of fall—the vibrant colors that glow on sunny days and soften in the rain. As we head outdoors rain or shine, please ensure your children come dressed appropriately for the weather.
This month will be full of exciting activities at our school, including parent-teacher conferences, the Scholastic Book Fair, Thanksgiving celebrations, and Halloween festivities. Stay tuned for more updates on all the fun and learning happening in October!
Parent-Teacher Conferences @Bruce
Date: October 8 and 9
Parent/Student/Teacher conferences will take place on Wednesday, October 8th, and Thursday, October 9th. We will have a 2 pm early dismissal on these two days to allow teachers enough time to meet with families. Please plan for early 2 pm pickup on these days, as we are unable to offer extra supervision after the early dismissal.
These meetings are an opportunity for parents and teachers to meet and discuss students’ work in the classroom and upcoming goals. Students are expected to attend the conferences with their parents. The communication of student learning is ongoing, and the October conferences offer the first school-wide opportunity to meet with your classroom teachers. The first written progress report (Learning Updates #1) will be sent home in December. In April, students will accompany parents for our second school-wide conferences. We hope to see every child with their parent(s) or guardian(s) at these meetings.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you are unable to attend during the scheduled times. A combination of online bookings and forms have been shared with parents by different teachers for parents to choose a date and time for a conference. Please book a time online or return the completed form to your child’s classroom teacher by the requested deadline.
Scholastic Book Fair @Bruce
Date: October 8 and 9 from 2:15 - 6:15pm in the library
Our Graham Bruce Scholastic book fair takes place on Tuesday October 8 and Wednesday October 9 from 2:15-6:15pm to coincide with Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Please note: this will be our only in-person Book Fair this year. We may have a Virtual Book Fair in April but this is still to be determined.
Scholastic Book Fair is an opportunity for our community of students, parents, teachers, and staff to celebrate literacy and a love of reading. It is also an opportunity to help support our school library to grow our collection. There will be books, posters, pencils, and other small items for sale and a special draw for a poster from the Scholastic collection.
We will take cash or cards. Please join us to spread the love of reading!
Thank you to Ms. Jack, our teacher-librarian, for leading this event at Bruce!
Canned Food Drive @Bruce!
Date: Monday, October 6th to Friday, October 10th
Thanksgiving is right around the corner! We have so much to be thankful for: family, friends, food, shelter, and so much more! Let's help others who may need a helping hand! We are asking our students to bring canned, boxed, or other non-perishable foods to class. Division 3 students will come by each morning to collect the donations. Our goal is to collect 400 cans! If each person brings 2 cans, we can reach this goal! Let's show that at Bruce, we care! Many thanks to Mr. Tam and Division 3 for organizing and leading this meaningful project.
