Students applying to post-secondary institutions may need an interim mark reported as part of their application process. Because deadlines vary between institutions and programs, students are responsible for knowing the requirements and deadlines for the schools to which they are applying.

VLN teachers will work with students to develop a learning plan that supports both course completion and the student's educational goals, including making reasonable efforts to help students meet post-secondary application deadlines.

Please note that a student's Primary School, also known as the student's Home School or School of Record, is responsible for submitting marks to the Ministry of Education and Child Care. Students should allow sufficient time for course work to be completed, assessed, and reported before any submission deadlines.

Eligibility for a VLN Interim Mark

A VLN interim mark can be issued when:

1. The student has completed at least 50% of the course; and
2. The student has successfully completed either the midterm exam or the final exam with a passing grade.

Requesting an Interim Mark

To request an interim mark for post-secondary applications:

1. Inform your VLN teacher as early as possible of the post-secondary institution's deadline.
2. Work with your teacher to develop a course completion schedule that supports both the VLN interim mark requirements and the institution's reporting deadline.
3. Complete the required course work and meet the VLN interim mark criteria.
4. Once eligible, the teacher will calculate and post the interim mark in MyEducation BC (MyEd BC).
5. The teacher will notify the student when the interim mark has been posted.

Submission of Interim Marks

After the interim mark has been posted in MyEd BC:

• Students attending a brick-and-mortar secondary school should contact their primary school to ensure the mark is submitted to the Ministry of Education and Child Care.
• Full-Time VLN students do not need to submit a separate request. VLN regularly reviews and submits interim marks for full-time students as part of our reporting processes.

Important Reminder

Students are encouraged to communicate interim mark requests as early as possible. Providing advance notice helps ensure there is adequate time for learning activities to be completed, assessed, and reported before post-secondary deadlines.
