Student Attendance & Absence Notification (New)
Classroom teachers record absences and punctuality for each class on MyEd BC. Unexcused absences are then reported daily to parents/guardians by email. Please log on to the student's MyEd account and go to “My Info” to view the "Attendance".
A written notification from a parent/guardian is required for updating a student’s absence on MyEd BC for illness, appointment, vacation, or any other reasons causing an excused absence. Please send it to the office by email or on a printed form.
Notification By Email
- Email thomattendance@vsb.bc.ca as well as the student’s teacher(s) with the following:
- First name and last name of the student
- Student number
- Grade
- Date(s) of absence
- Reason for absence (illness, appointment, vacation, etc.)
- We accept email notification by a parent/guardian sent from an account registered in our student information system. Upon verification of the sender's email address, we will update the student’s attendance to excused absence.
Printed Absence Note
- Please download an absence note here or pick up a printed form in the office. Completed forms must be signed by a parent/guardian, and teachers’ signature is required.
For correction of a record of “Absent” or “Late”, please speak with the teacher who enters the absence or tardiness first and email thomattendance@vsb.bc.ca afterwards.
Field Trips or School Events
Teachers usually compile a list of students who will be away from classes for field trips, tournaments and any other school events for the office to authorize the students' absence in classroom. These absences do not require an absence note.
Signing Out During School Hours
If a student becomes ill or has an appointment during school hours, students must sign out at the office. Students will be released only with parent permission. An absence note is required for updating a student’s absence on MyEd BC.
Extended Absence for Vacation
An extended absence for vacation notification is required of students who plan to take an extended vacation while school is in session. Signatures by the student's parent/guardian, teachers and counsellor are required on the form.
Please download the notification here or pick up paper forms in the office.
Late Return from Summer Break
Students planning to return to school from summer break later than Friday, September 5, 2025 noon and prior to Monday, September 29, 2025 must notify the school administration before Friday, September 5, 2025 noon of their late return by emailing a completed Notice of Late Return to David Thompson.
Should a student's attendance in school remain unverified by Friday, September 5, 2025 noon, the student's space will become open to another student on the school's waitlist. Please note that space will not be held beyond Monday, September 29, 2025.
