FIFA World Cup 2026
Vancouver will be one of sixteen host cities for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, with seven matches taking place this summer at BC Place Vancouver. This is an exciting moment for our city and community.
An event of this scale will also bring increased traffic, road closures and higher transit demand, particularly in and around the downtown core on the seven match days. The City of Vancouver is working diligently to manage these impacts and keep stakeholders informed. These impacts may affect daily routines, including travel to and from school.
We want families to know what to expect and how to plan ahead to ensure students arrive safely and on time for their classes. The City has advised us the following traffic impacts will occur:
- From May 23 through the end of July, Pacific Boulevard will be closed between the Cambie Street Bridge off-ramp and Carrall Street to expand the stadium footprint and ensure public safety.
- Walking and cycling routes will largely remain open, including the False creek seawall, with detours where needed.
- On the seven match days (see below dates), additional temporary road closures and restrictions will be in place near BC Place Vancouver. Two dates are bolded because they fall on a school day, which may affect additional travel times.
- Saturday, June 13 – 9 p.m.
- Thursday, June 18 – 3 p.m.
- Sunday, June 21 – 6 p.m.
- Wednesday, June 24 – 12 p.m.
- Friday, June 26 – 8 p.m.
- Thursday, July 2 – 8 p.m.
- Tuesday, July 7 – 1 p.m.
BC Place Vancouver will open three hours before the start of every match and the spectator route into the stadium (beginning from Main Street-Science World Transit Station) will open four hours before every match to support the safe and orderly ingress of ticketholders into the stadium.
Families should expect increased congestion before and after these match dates and times, especially near BC Place Vancouver and along major downtown transit routes. We encourage families to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and consider active transportation such as walking, transiting, biking or rolling where possible. TransLink will increase service across Metro Vancouver, including buses, SkyTrain and SeaBus to encourage alternative ways to travel.
