Teaching leadership skills within the VSB
A message from Suprintendent of Schools, Steve Cardwell:
Vancouver has a long history and a strong culture of leadership development throughout the system. The current Leadership Development Program (LDP) which began five years ago and is inclusive of all employee groups has been particularly successful.
Literally hundreds of employees have now had the opportunity to participate and to develop their skills and capacity for leadership. As we address budget reductions and reorganization at the district level, we will continue to build on the success of programs like the LDP.
For the school year 2010-1011 however, we will not be inviting a new group of people to join a cohort in the LDP. We will complete the second year with the group that began in 2009-2010.
Over the 2010-2011 school year we will examine how we can continue to build leadership capacity throughout the district. We will be working with the various employee groups and will communicate about future plans over the year.
Congratulations to all who have successfully completed the two year program this year!
Thank you to Corine Clark, Thoralee Nomm, Kathy O'Sullivan and Denise Johnson who worked together as facilitators to make this year's program so successful.
