At its meeting on May 5, 2025, the Vancouver School Board (VSB) approved a financial plan for 2025-2026 school year that advances student learning and well-being. The financial plan provides spending of more than $794 million next school year.

With the approval of the 2025-2026 financial plan, the Board prioritized:

  • Initiatives that align with the goals in the Education Plan, ensuring that VSB continues to support positive outcomes and enriching learning experiences for students.
  • Redirects resources to schools and classrooms, fostering inclusive learning environments.
  • Responds to community calls for more direct support for student learning by reallocating resources, resulting in additional student support workers (SSAs) and maintaining teacher staffing above provincially funded ratios.

The Board heard from inherent rights holders, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwxwú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) and the District’s formal stakeholder groups, as well as from students, their families, staff and the broader public about their priorities for investments in student learning. Guidance, input and feedback gathered throughout the engagement period provided valuable insights into the community's priorities regarding VSB’s 2025-2026 financial plan.

Quotes

Victoria Jung, VSB chair
“I’m proud of our Board’s work on this financial plan. We grappled with tough decisions balancing economic challenges, with the needs of the students and families we serve. This plan provides additional support directly in schools and classrooms. Next year’s financial plan reflects our Board’s shared priorities with inherent rights holders, our labour partners and other stakeholders. It directly meets the calls we heard from students’ families for more supports in the classroom to advance student learning and improve inclusive education.”
