Honouring Musqueam Day
November 1 is Musqueam Day, a day that marks an important moment in Canadian history and celebrates the strength of Musqueam people.
Musqueam Day commemorates the 1984 Supreme Court of Canada Guerin decision, which confirmed the government’s legal duty to act in the best interests of Indigenous peoples. This ruling came after Musqueam leaders fought for years to correct an unfair land lease. Their determination changed Canadian law and affirmed Indigenous rights.
For VSB, Musqueam Day is an opportunity to:
- Honour Musqueam ancestors who stood for justice
 - Learn about Indigenous history
 - Reflect on the past and think about how we can continue our own Reconciliation journeys

With deep gratitude and respect, we are honoured to be learning and unlearning on the ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation).
