DLG Weekly Update: November 10–14, 2025

Dear DLG Families,

We hope you’re enjoying the crisp fall weather and looking forward to the upcoming long weekend. Here are some important updates and reminders for the week ahead:

🔒 Lockdown Drill – Thank You!

Last Friday, our school conducted a lockdown drill, and we’re proud to share that it went very smoothly. Students followed instructions carefully, remained quiet, and stayed away from windows and doors. The school appeared completely empty—just as it should during a lockdown.

To help students understand the importance of these drills, I sometimes share a story from my time teaching at Mackenzie School. During a real lockdown, a large dog had entered the building. Unsure of the dog’s temperament, the principal called a lockdown to keep everyone safe. Loud noises or running could have startled the dog, potentially causing harm. Thankfully, the dog was friendly, and an apologetic grandparent later explained it had slipped off its leash. These drills help us prepare for all kinds of unexpected situations.

🎖️ Remembrance Day Assembly – Monday at 11:00 AM

In accordance with the BC School Act, we will hold our Remembrance Day Assembly on Monday, November 10 at 11:00 AM. This is a meaningful time for our school community to honor those who have served and continue to serve our country, and to reflect on our shared commitment to peace.

Families are welcome to attend. We’ll have plenty of standing room and a limited number of chairs available.

📅 Remembrance Day Holiday – Tuesday, November 11

Please note that school will be closed on Tuesday in observance of Remembrance Day.

🌱 Grounds Clean-Up – Division 1

As part of our Code of Conduct, we encourage students to care for their environment. Each week, a different division helps clean up our school grounds. This week, Division 1 will be taking the lead. Please remind your child about the importance of respecting nature and keeping our outdoor spaces clean.

📸 Photo Re-Takes – Wednesday Morning

If your child missed photo day or needs a re-take, photographers will be at the school on Wednesday morning.

🚀 Field Trip – Space Centre (Division 4)

Division 4 is heading to the Space Centre this week! We’re excited for our students to explore the wonders of the universe—who knows, we may have a future astronaut among us!

❄️ Save the Date – Winter Concert

Our Winter Concert is shaping up to be a spectacular event! Please mark your calendars for Thursday, December 18. A flyer with more details is attached—don’t miss it!

🍫 PAC News – Purdy’s Fundraiser

It’s that time of year again! Our Purdy’s Chocolate Fundraiser is underway. These delicious treats make great gifts, and proceeds support PAC-sponsored programs at DLG. Please see the attached order form for details. For more information about our PAC, visit the website https://www.dlgpac.com/

Wishing you a peaceful and reflective Remembrance Day, and a wonderful week ahead.
