Our Focus

VSB will foster school communities where students can learn, see themselves, feel supported and connected so that they develop a love of learning and become lifelong learners. As a school district, we are committed to reconciliation. VSB works in respectful partnership with local First Nations as inherent rights holders and with members of Indigenous communities.
 
Reconciliation and Indigenous education Ensure learning reflects Indigenous histories, cultures and rights, and support all students to understand the ongoing work of reconciliation.

Examples:
 
Include Indigenous perspectives and ways of knowing in classroom learning.

Create welcoming spaces and supports for Indigenous students so they feel safe, connected and proud of who they are.
 

 Student learning  Improve reading, writing, math and critical and creative thinking skills across all grades. Give students the support they need to learn and succeed.
 
 Examples:
 Give teachers more training on ways to support students’ diverse learning needs.
 
 Provide students with up to date learning tools and resources that reflect their cultures, identities and experiences.
 
 Equity and inclusion  Identify and remove barriers so every student feels welcome and has a clear path to success.
 
 Examples:
 Keep students with diverse learning needs in their neighbourhood schools with their peers instead of placing them in separate programs.
 
 Support students who need more time to graduate with clear plans to help them finish secondary school.
 
 Student wellbeing  Ensure staff and resources support mental health and social emotional growth so students feel safe, included and connected at school.
 
 Examples:
 Learn more about how students are feeling and help teachers find ways to support their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
 
 Give staff the training and support they need to make classrooms more welcoming and inclusive for everyone.


 Fiscal responsibility  Manage our funding carefully and follow provincial laws, collective agreements and public accounting standards. This helps us, as a public education system, meet all our responsibilities to students, families, staff and our community.

Examples:
 When planning the 2026–2027 budget, we aim to keep services for students as close as possible to what was offered in 2025–2026.

We look for ways to save money by improving processes and reducing manual tasks. This includes work that supports classrooms, school sites and the many services that keep the system running each day. Improving these processes helps all staff spend more time on the work that supports students’ learning and well‑being.
