The Vancouver School Board’s Finance Committee met on the evening of Wednesday, April 12, 2023. Watch the full meeting or view the agenda for details.

The committee received information updates about engagement outcomes related to the 2023-2024 budget, the development work on 2023-2024 budget development work, accumulated operating surplus and details about the Student and Family Affordability Fund. 

Committee members were informed about the feedback received from the District’s formal stakeholder groups and the broader community about proposed budget measure for the 2023-2024 budget. This year, stakeholders gathered together to share cross-organizational perspectives about budget matters and the annual online budget survey saw the highest participation by the public in the last five years. 

Committee member also heard information about the ongoing budget development in addition to details about the operating surplus which requires action to comply with Board policies. Lastly, the committee was advised about the funding support for students and their families under the Student and Family Affordability Fund announced by the provincial government in August 2022. Members of the committee also learned that the provincial government will extend supports to students and families to help offset financial hardship through funding commitment as announced following the provincial budget in March and the District’s work to allocate finds to meet the needs of students and families – particularly in the area of food security and nutrition.
