About the poles

The three poles are made from 300 to 500-year-old west red cedar wood from the Squamish Territory.

Western red cedar (Thuja plicata) is a dominant species of the coastal rainforest. It provides nesting habitat for many species of birds and bats. Black bears also hibernate in hollowed centres of ancient redcedars.

Western red cedar can grow up to 60 feet tall. The Reconciliation Pole is 44 feet tall and the two Welcome Figures are approximately 20 feet tall.
