The Vancouver School Board held a special Board meeting on Monday, June 6, 2022 to decide on the closure of the Queen Elizabeth Annex (QEA) school site by June 30, 2023.

Decision by the Board

The decision before the Board comes after District staff recommended the closure of QEA on January 17, 2022, at a public Board meeting. District staff recommended this closure to the Board to ensure responsible use of resources to benefit all students while prioritizing education opportunities for QEA students. After a detailed discussion by trustees about the impacts of the school closure, trustees voted 6-3 in favour of the closure.

Following the Board’s decision, District staff will determine where current QEA students will be relocated starting in the 2023/24 school year and communicate this decision to staff and families by June 24. Further, as per Board Policy 14, the Superintendent will make a recommendation to the Board in the coming weeks regarding an alternate use of the QEA site.
