Earth Day Vancouver Celebration needs you
A group of youth from Windermere Secondary School called Y4CJN (Youth For Climate Justice Now) are holding the first Youth-led Earth Day Vancouver Celebration on Earth Day, Friday, April 22, 2011.
The group's goal is to hold Vancouver's first Earth Day Celebration organized by youth for youth and their families of Metro Vancouver. By bringing together the youth of Metro Vancouver, they hope to raise awareness and show their concern about climate change and climate justice as it is at the forefront of environmental talks today.
This years earth day parade in Vancouver will start in the morning of April 22nd, 2011 at 11am and Grandview Highway and Commercial Drive just North of Commercial-Broadway Skytrain station.
The parade will proceed northwards on Commercial Drive and onto Brittania Secondary School's field, where we will be hosting a festival. The festival will feature activities such as school/art competitions, live music music, a family tent, hands on activities, and special guest speakers.
Vancouver's first Earth Day Celebration organized by youth for youth and their families of Metro Vancouver
We want to invite YOU, your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbours to come out and celebrate with us! We will be marching up Commercial Drive with large colourful banners, costumes, pedal-powered floats, dances, and chants focusing on the effects of climate change.
We are asking all participants to help us with this! Dress up in vibrant clothing, create large banners with messages; let your imagination run wild, there will be a huge prize for those that are most creative.
Also attached is our poster and school contest information (Queen of Green). Feel free to print the poster and spread the news to all your friends! We are hoping that all the secondary schools will make something for the parade, and work/promote with their elementary schools to help them make floats, costumes, or banners. For the Queen of Green, we are asking every school to submit one project for this contest.
The parade is supported by a number of organizations including the City of Vancouver, The David Suzuki Foundation, Wilderness Committee, Metro Vancouver and the Vancouver School Board.
