On April 27th past students, parents, staff and community partners of Sir John Franklin Elementary can relive the past by browsing through displays of photographs, historical artifacts and documents at the school's centennial celebration. In addition to the historical artifacts, visitors can view student projects on decades of the past century, connect with old friends to share memories and stories and even indulge in some tasty refreshments.  Guest speakers will include past students, the PAC Chair, and dignitaries.

The school was originally opened in 1912, as a wood frame building located on the west side of the property that the current building occupies. That original building was moved across the street, renovated and is currently a private residence.  The Franklin community is long standing with many families attending the school for three generations.

School archives have provided insights into the past through principal notes on staff meetings and newsletters from as early as the 1920s.  Issues addressed at various times included concerns for how teachers were to approach the topic of the Japanese children, who were interned at Hastings Park during World War.

The Centennial celebration will be taking place on Friday April 27, 2012 from 5 PM - 8 PM. The school is located at 250 South Skeena Street.
