IB Budget

Vancouver, B.C. – The Vancouver School Board passed a balanced operating fund budget for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. For the first time in 15 years, the budget was balanced without dipping into the surplus reserves.

As a public sector entity, the Board is required to pass a balanced budget annually in accordance with the School Act. The budget by-law provides spending of $735,910,647 in next year’s budget.

The balanced 2023-2024 budget contains sufficient funding to cover the expenditures planned for the next school year. For the first time in several years, the annual budget was balanced without using surplus funds from prior years (one-time use funds).

Notably, the 2023-2024 budget also provides $100,000 of funding support student leadership and voice as well as $100,000 for student-led sustainability projects. The Board and staff across the District fosters school communities where students can learn, see themselves, feel supported and connected so that they develop a love of learning and become lifelong learners.  Therefore, student voice and agency are key and dedicated funding will advance student voice and agency next school year.
