VSB announces new associate superintendent

The Vancouver School District is pleased to announce that Maureen McRae-Stanger has accepted the position of associate superintendent with the District.

Maureen joins VSB from New Westminster Schools (School District 40) where she served as a director of instruction for the last five years of her 35 years of service in the K-12 education sector. Her vast and diverse experience includes teaching, administration at both the elementary and secondary levels as well as leadership at the school district level.

“With a wealth of administrative and teaching experience, Maureen has extensive and diverse knowledge of all facets of K-12 education,” says Helen McGregor, superintendent. “Known as a relational leader, she builds strong connections with students, their families, staff and the broader community. She approaches her work with an unwavering focus on improving outcomes for all students based on evidence-informed practices.”

An accomplished educational leader, Maureen’s experience also includes leadership with online/dispersed learning, career programs, choice programs, alternate programs and adult education. Her leadership advanced the work of school districts in the development and implementation of diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism strategies, safe and caring schools, social-emotional learning initiatives and mental health supports in schools. Working alongside Indigenous educators, she also provided ongoing professional development opportunities supporting teachers in embedding the First Peoples Principles of Learning and truth and reconciliation into the curriculum in meaningful ways.

Maureen will join our VSB team in the coming weeks.
