Program Description 

This program is designed to meet the needs of students who meet the Ministry of Education criteria for Gifted (P) and Learning Disabilities (Q) designations. The goal of the program is to support student’s academic while helping them understand their own strengths and challenges. They learn compensatory strategies and skills to in order school success.

Grade 8 GOLD students receive two blocks of support in their timetable. One block is English 8, and the other is for GOLD Resource Support. Grade 9 GOLD students are timetabled with one block of resource support.

• provide an enriched learning opportunities in an topic/areas of interest

Student Profile

Students are appropriate for placement in this program when they meet the Ministry criteria for Gifted (P) and Learning Disabilities (Q) designation.

Referral Process

Referrals must be submitted to the District Case Manager, High Incidence.  

Documentation Required

• completed “Request for Designation &/or Special Education Program Placement” form
• completed “Pre-Referral Intervention Strategies” (PRIS) form
• Psycho-educational assessment or an alternative standardized assessment
• Report Card
• School Based Team minutes
• current grade equivalent reading level

Placement Evaluation

Student placement is reviewed every spring with the goal of returning students to their home schools. A transition plan between the GOLD program staff and the receiving school is established.
