Hamber Secondary students excel at computer programming competition

Five students from Eric Hamber Secondary achieved top results at the Canadian Computing Competition sponsored by the University of Waterloo. Out of more than 3000 students across Canada who entered the junior competition, grade 12 student Nicholas Tan achieved a perfect score, with 100%. Grade 10 students Ryan Leeson and Spencer Leung and grade 12 students Benny Wong and Wenying Wu all scored on the honour roll for the competition.
Hamber's results top those in Western Canada, with the next closest finisher being a Vancouver private school. Hamber was also the only school outside of Ontario to have five students place on the official results. The school last had a champion in this competition in 2014.
The Waterloo competition is the top national high school level programming competition. Students take a three-hour performance-based exam where they need to solve five programming problems. They create generic solutions from scratch for the problems using a computer programming language.
Eric Hamber Secondary continues to attract students for its computer science and programming courses, with more than 100 students taking the classes every year. Congratulations to the students and their teacher, Robert Arkiletian.
