This May, eight students from Templeton, Tupper, Van Tech and King George enrolled in Legal Boot Camp, a new pilot program and partnership between the Vancouver School Board and UBC Law.

The aim of the program was to get high school kids who haven't had exposure to the legal community into an intensive week long course where they got a crash course in the law, learning from criminal lawyers, business lawyers, UBC law professors, constitutional experts and judges.

Students received the majority of their lectures at UBC's Faculty of Law and then headed down to the courthouse to watch law in action at the Supreme Court. Later that day, they heard from BC Court of Appeal Justice David Frankel before heading off for tours of various Vancouver law firms with their new lawyer mentors.

This was the first year the week long pilot project has been run. Lawyer and Legal Boot Camp organizer Alon Mizrahi (a Van Tech grad) hopes to build on the project and create lasting mentorship opportunities in the coming years for the student participants.
