Lisa Wong graduated as one of Britannia's top students. Over the years, she was President of the Student Council, a member of the Business Club and she participated in volleyball, basketball, soccer, track and ultimate frisbee. Outside of school, she also volunteered her time with many worthwhile causes such as building a new playground at Grandview Elementary School.

However, there was a time when Wong tried to do too much and it negatively affected her focus in school and her grades.  

"At one point my grades really suffered because I was doing too many things," she said. "I ended up doing just the bare minimum, and that wasn't good enough for my teachers. Or my parents."

With the help of her family, Wong realized that, if she wanted to go on to post-secondary studies, she needed to set clear goals for the future. Her teachers helped her identify those goals and they also taught her about effective time management.  

The result was a dramatic improvement in her grades and Wong still had lots of time for the other things she loved doing. She is quick to admit that, if it weren't for making those tough choices in high school, it is unlikely she would have made it into UBC, where she attends the Sauder School of Business. 

Nowadays she is working towards her dream of becoming an employment lawyer.

"I want to give back to my community, " she says. "This is where my family and friends are and it's really important for me to stay connected."
