On Friday August 19, 2016 an after-hours fire damaged Carleton Elementary. No one was hurt during the fire, however, the building is no longer safe to be occupied by students or staff.

In response to the fire, the District offered Carleton families an option to attend Cunningham Elementary, which is 2 KM away, or another nearby school. Although Cunningham school had sufficient capacity to accommodate all Carleton students, many families opted to enroll their children at other nearby schools, principally Weir Elementary (1 KM from Carleton) and MacCorkindale Elementary (1.5 KM from Carleton).

Current enrolment process

Students  living in Carleton catchment are currently offered a spot at Cunningham Elementary. Families currently living in the Carleton catchment who wish to send their children to other nearby schools must take an extra step and apply to their school of choice through a cross-boundary application.
